INTELLIGENT CHARACTER RECOGNITION (ICR) NOW AVAILABLE WITHIN PEGASUS IMAGING’S SMARTZONE™ SDK |
TAMPA, FL, DECEMBER 4, 2007 – Pegasus® Imaging Corporation, the leading provider of document imaging technology, today announces it has added Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR) to the SmartZone™ Software Development Kit (SDK). SmartZone ICR / OCR contains a new codebase offering improved hand-print recognition results, faster speeds, and support for additional characters and symbols. This ICR (hand-print) technology is added to two new editions of the current SmartZone v1 toolkit. SmartZone customers may purchase the upgrade, and FormSuite customers receive the upgrade for free. Upgrade discounts are also offered to Pegasus Imaging’s SmartScan Xpress ICR/OCR/OMR SDK customers. Using the same collection of images, this release yields a 15-25% increase in ICR accuracy and a 10-50% improvement in speed over SmartScan Xpress. The ICR technology in SmartZone recognizes hand-printed American and European English characters using pre-defined character sets: uppercase, lowercase, mixed case alphabetic, digits (including the seven digit with a horizontal cross through the middle, and zero digit with a slash through it), currency (including $ (dollar), ¢(cent) € (Euro) £ (pound), ¥(Yen)), arithmetic and punctuation characters (including period, comma, single quote, double quote, ! & ( ) ? @ { } \ # % * + - / : ; < = >). Users can tailor recognition results by specifying custom character sets containing only expected values. The SmartZone ICR / OCR software development toolkit (SDK) provides zonal ICR (hand-printed) and zonal OCR (machine-printed) technology for use within either .NET or ActiveX COM development environments. Commonly used in forms processing applications, this toolkit internally employs multiple independent recognition techniques to verify results and improve accuracy. ImagXpress Standard and ScanFix Xpress Lite are included with SmartZone for image handling, image cleanup, and TWAIN scanning. With this release, all components in the FormSuite product installation (including SmartZone, ImagXpress, TwainPRO, ThumbnailXpress, NotateXpress, PrintPRO, FormFix, ScanFix Xpress, and FormDirector) are now compatible with Visual Studio 2008; this service pack is provided free to current FormSuite component customers. SmartZone’s OCR accuracy and speed are also improved in this release; this service pack is provided free to current SmartZone OCR customers. Using the same collection of images, the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) in this release yields a 24% accuracy improvement over the first release of SmartZone, and demonstrates 86% fewer errors for OCR than SmartScan Xpress OCR.
