PEGASUS RELEASES JPEG 2000 PHOTOSHOP PLUG-IN |
| TAMPA, FL, September 27 2001 – The ImagePress JPEG2000™ PhotoShop Plug-In was released today by Pegasus Imaging Corporation, a leader in digital imaging technology. The ImagePress JPEG2000™ plug-in allows Adobe users to compress images to 100% compatible JPEG 2000 format. Both lossless and lossy JPEG 2000 compression modes are now available to PhotoShop users within one product. Higher compression ratios are now attainable without sacrificing quality, as JPEG 2000 provides better compression performance than standard JPEG when compressing large images. ImagePress JPEG2000 features include a preview function that allows users to monitor the visual results of changing compression settings, and a zoom function that magnifies the image to see the results of compression. The difference between ImagePress JPEG2000™ and other JPEG 2000 Photoshop plug-ins is Pegasus has developed and is optimizing its own JPEG 2000 technology through its partnerships, and has rigorously adhered to the JPEG 2000 committee’s specifications. Pegasus is unique among imaging tool vendors because the company relies on Phd-level scientist staff members who have developed the code and who can supply its customer base with ongoing support, research, and development. “Our strategic partnership with AlgoVision allowed us to leverage both companies’ expertise in JPEG 2000 technologies, says Chris Lubeck, director of development at Pegasus Imaging. “This product is based on our JPEG 2000 software development kit and is the first of a series of JPEG 2000 products that we will soon be offering.” ImagePress JPEG2000™ supports grayscale image data through 16 bits per pixel (bpp) and RGB color image data through 24 bpp. The technology will be particularly useful to those interested in compressing high resolution, large images such as satellite images, surveillance, and maps.
